The Mandarin oranges are popular during Gong Xi Fa Chai with the Chinese as the word "orange" in Chinese sounds like "gold" or "good luck". Come the Lunar New Year, the Chinese buy oranges by the boxes to be given away to express good wishes for the New Year.
Here are some ways to solve probably saving your mandarin oranges and orange peels from getting dumped in the trash.
1. Room Freshener - place orange peels onto the vents of your radiator an it filled the living room with the citrus scent.
2. Brown Sugar - Slip a piece of orange peel into your sugar container and you'll have soft and fluffy sugar.
3. Make candied orange peels .
4. Run orange peels through the garbage disposal to freshen up a stinky garbage disposal.
5. Scrub a sink. Use a fresh orange peel to scrub through the gunk in your sink. The natural oils in orange peel are an excellent cleaner and shine your sink too.
6. Protect Your Garden - Scatter orange peels in your garden to deter cats from using it as a litter box. Cats hate the smell of orange oil and will do their business elsewhere.
7. As bug repellent. The oils in orange peels are also a natural insect repellent.
8. Light your fire by using dried orange peels instead of newspaper to start a fire. Orange oil is flammable and lights easily which makes it an excellent fire starter.
9. Bake a homemade orange cake.
10. After taking a warm bath dry ur body well and aply on your skin the oil of the peeling which u can get by tightly squzing the peel. It helps keeping you skin soft.
